More Details About the Medicine

Rezna 60 mg Tablet contains resmetirom 60 mg, a prescription medicine used for a specific form of fatty liver disease known as metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), previously called non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).

It is manufactured in Pakistan by Nabiqasim Industries and is available in 60 mg, 80 mg and 100 mg strengths. The manufacturer’s prescribing information confirms that each Rezna 60 mg film-coated tablet contains resmetirom 60 mg.

What is Rezna 60 mg Used For?

Rezna is used together with diet and exercise for adults with noncirrhotic MASH/NASH who have moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (F2–F3).

This is an important distinction: Rezna is not a general-purpose medicine for everyone with fatty liver. Treatment is intended for appropriately diagnosed patients with significant liver fibrosis.

How Does Rezna Work?

Resmetirom targets thyroid hormone receptor-beta (THR-β), which is highly expressed in the liver.

Activation of this receptor influences liver fat metabolism and helps address some of the metabolic abnormalities associated with MASH. This targeted mechanism distinguishes resmetirom from general supplements or medicines sometimes used in people with fatty liver disease.

Rezna 60 mg Dosage

The dose of resmetirom is determined by a healthcare professional and should not be selected simply on the basis of which tablet strength is available.

Interestingly, the manufacturer’s prescribing information gives the usual recommended adult dosage according to actual body weight:

  • Below 100 kg: 80 mg once daily
  • 100 kg or above: 100 mg once daily

Therefore, although a 60 mg tablet is marketed, patients should not assume that 60 mg is the standard starting dose. Dose adjustments can be required in situations such as certain drug interactions.

Rezna should only be taken according to the prescribing doctor’s instructions.

Possible Side Effects

Resmetirom can cause side effects. Commonly reported adverse effects include gastrointestinal symptoms such as:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Constipation

Some patients may also experience dizziness or itching.

Tell your healthcare professional if side effects are persistent, severe or concerning.

Liver-Related Precautions

Although Rezna is used to treat a liver disease, resmetirom can itself be associated with liver-related adverse reactions in some patients.

Patients should promptly report symptoms such as unusual tiredness, persistent nausea, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine or pain in the upper-right abdomen.

A doctor may perform appropriate liver tests during treatment.

Gallbladder Problems

Resmetirom treatment has also been associated with gallbladder-related problems.

Seek medical advice if you develop significant upper abdominal pain, fever, nausea or other symptoms that could indicate a gallbladder disorder.

Rezna and Other Medicines

Resmetirom can interact with certain medications.

This is particularly important for people taking medicines for cholesterol, including some statins, as well as medicines that can alter resmetirom concentrations in the body.

Give your doctor or pharmacist a complete list of your prescription medicines, non-prescription products and supplements before starting Rezna.

Can Rezna Be Used for Simple Fatty Liver?

Rezna should not be viewed as a routine tablet for uncomplicated fatty liver disease.

Its approved therapeutic role is much more specific: adults with noncirrhotic MASH/NASH accompanied by moderate to advanced liver fibrosis. Diagnosis and assessment of fibrosis should be performed by an appropriate healthcare professional.

Important Advice

MASH is closely associated with metabolic factors such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and abnormal lipid levels. Medication does not replace management of these underlying risk factors.

Rezna is prescribed in conjunction with diet and exercise, and patients should continue the broader treatment plan recommended by their healthcare professional.
