More Details About the Medicine

Rezna 100 mg Tablet contains resmetirom 100 mg, a prescription medicine for selected adults with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH)—previously called NASH—who have moderate to advanced liver fibrosis.

Nabiqasim Industries markets Rezna in 60 mg, 80 mg and 100 mg strengths, with 14 tablets per pack.

What is Rezna 100 mg Used For?

Rezna is used alongside diet and exercise for adults with noncirrhotic MASH/NASH with moderate to advanced liver fibrosis (F2–F3).

MASH is a progressive liver condition involving excess liver fat, inflammation and liver-cell injury. Continued disease activity can cause fibrosis, meaning scar tissue develops within the liver.

Rezna is therefore not intended as a routine treatment for every person diagnosed with fatty liver. Appropriate assessment of the severity and stage of liver disease is important before treatment.

Who May Be Prescribed Rezna 100 mg?

The 100 mg strength has a specific place in the standard weight-based dosing of resmetirom.

According to the manufacturer’s prescribing information:

  • Patients weighing less than 100 kg: 80 mg once daily
  • Patients weighing 100 kg or more: 100 mg once daily

This does not mean a patient should select the dose according to their weight without medical supervision. Other medicines and individual clinical factors can require dosage modification.

How Rezna Works in the Liver

Resmetirom is a partial thyroid hormone receptor-beta (THR-β) agonist.

THR-β is an important form of the thyroid hormone receptor in the liver. Activation of this receptor affects pathways involved in liver-fat metabolism and reduces intrahepatic triglycerides.

This liver-targeted mechanism is different from simply taking a cholesterol medicine, weight-loss medicine or nutritional supplement.

How to Take Rezna 100 mg

Rezna is taken orally once daily and can be administered with or without food.

Take the medicine according to the schedule prescribed by your healthcare professional. Do not switch between Rezna 60 mg, 80 mg and 100 mg without medical advice.

Diet, exercise and management of associated metabolic risk factors remain important parts of MASH treatment.

Possible Side Effects

Side effects reported with resmetirom include:

  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Constipation
  • Dizziness
  • Itching

Tell your healthcare professional if an adverse effect becomes severe or persistent.

Liver Monitoring During Treatment

Although resmetirom is used for liver disease, hepatotoxicity has been observed during treatment. The manufacturer therefore recommends monitoring patients for signs and symptoms of liver injury.

Contact your healthcare professional promptly if you develop symptoms that could indicate a liver problem, particularly significant fatigue, nausea, jaundice or dark urine.

Drug Interactions

Patients should provide their doctor with a complete list of their medicines before starting Rezna.

Interactions are particularly relevant with certain CYP2C8 inhibitors. For example, concomitant use with strong CYP2C8 inhibitors such as gemfibrozil is not recommended. Moderate inhibitors such as clopidogrel can require a lower resmetirom dose.

Resmetirom can also interact with some statins, so patients taking cholesterol-lowering treatment require appropriate medical review.

Rezna 100 mg and Cirrhosis

Rezna is intended for noncirrhotic MASH with F2–F3 fibrosis.

The prescribing information specifically advises avoiding resmetirom in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.

Patients with advanced liver disease should therefore be evaluated by an appropriate specialist before treatment decisions are made.
