More Details About the Medicine

Merocipt 1 g Injection is a prescription carbapenem antibiotic that contains Meropenem 1 g. It is used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. Meropenem is a broad-spectrum antibiotic reserved for moderate to severe infections and should only be administered under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. Meropenem is indicated for conditions such as severe pneumonia, complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, meningitis, and severe bacterial infections in patients with weakened immune systems.

Merocipt works by preventing bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, leading to bacterial death. Because it is effective against many resistant bacteria, it is considered a reserve antibiotic, and its use should be limited to appropriate clinical situations to help reduce antimicrobial resistance.

The medicine is administered by intravenous (IV) injection or infusion in hospitals or healthcare facilities. The dosage depends on the patient’s age, kidney function, body weight, and the severity and type of infection. Patients should complete the full prescribed course even if they begin to feel better.

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash
  • Pain or inflammation at the injection site

Serious allergic reactions, severe diarrhea, or seizures are uncommon but require immediate medical attention.

Merocipt should be used cautiously in patients with kidney disease or a history of allergy to meropenem, penicillins, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics. Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with reduced kidney function.

As with all antibiotics, Merocipt should not be used to treat viral infections such as the common cold, influenza, or dengue fever.
