Jardin-D 5 mg Tablet is an anti-allergy medicine containing desloratadine 5 mg. It is marketed in Pakistan by High-Q Pharmaceuticals and is commonly available in packs of 10 tablets.
What is Jardin-D 5 mg Used For?
Jardin-D is mainly used to relieve symptoms caused by allergic rhinitis and other allergic conditions. Desloratadine can help reduce:
- Sneezing
- Runny nose
- Itchy nose
- Watery or itchy eyes
- Itching
- Hives (urticaria)
It may be prescribed for both seasonal allergies, such as pollen-related symptoms, and allergies that occur throughout the year.
How Does Jardin-D Work?
Allergic reactions cause the body to release histamine, a chemical responsible for symptoms such as itching, sneezing and watery eyes.
Desloratadine blocks peripheral H1 histamine receptors, reducing the effects of histamine and helping control allergy symptoms.
It is a newer-generation antihistamine and is generally less sedating than older antihistamines, although some people may still experience tiredness or dizziness.
How to Take Jardin-D 5 mg
For adults and adolescents 12 years and older, desloratadine 5 mg is commonly taken once daily. It can generally be taken with or without food.
However, patients should follow the dose recommended by their doctor or pharmacist, particularly if they have other medical conditions or take other medicines.
Do not take additional tablets simply because allergy symptoms have not disappeared immediately.
Possible Side Effects
Jardin-D is generally well tolerated, but possible side effects of desloratadine can include:
- Headache
- Dry mouth
- Tiredness
- Dizziness
- Nausea or stomach discomfort
Serious allergic reactions are uncommon but require urgent medical attention. Seek help if symptoms such as difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat occur.
Precautions
Before taking Jardin-D, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you:
- Are allergic to desloratadine or loratadine
- Have significant kidney or liver problems
- Are pregnant or planning pregnancy
- Are breastfeeding
- Take other prescription or non-prescription medicines
Although desloratadine is considered relatively non-sedating, see how the medicine affects you before driving or performing activities requiring full alertness.
Jardin-D vs Loratadine
Desloratadine is closely related to loratadine. In fact, desloratadine is the major active metabolite of loratadine. Both are antihistamines used for allergic conditions, but they are separate medicines with their own dosing.
