More Details About the Medicine

Anplag 90mg is an oral antiplatelet medication containing Ticagrelor, primarily prescribed to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and stent thrombosis (blood clots forming inside a newly placed cardiac stent). It belongs to a class of drugs known as P2Y12 adenosine diphosphate (ADP) receptor antagonists, which play a critical role in modern cardiology and management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS).

Mechanism of Action

Anplag works by reversibly binding to the P2Y12 receptors on the surface of blood platelets. By blocking these receptors, it prevents chemical signals from causing platelets to stick together and form dangerous arterial clots. This helps maintain steady blood flow to the heart and brain, lowering the likelihood of a secondary cardiac event.

Usage & Administration

The standard regimen for managing ACS typically begins with a higher initial loading dose, followed by a maintenance dose of one 90mg tablet taken twice daily, with or without food. To maximize its therapeutic efficacy, Anplag is almost always prescribed in combination with a low maintenance dose of daily aspirin (usually 75mg to 100mg). It is crucial not to exceed 100mg of daily aspirin, as higher doses can significantly reduce Ticagrelor’s effectiveness.

Safety & Side Effects

Because Anplag thins the blood, the most common side effect is an increased tendency to bleed or bruise easily, leading to frequent nosebleeds or prolonged bleeding from minor cuts. Another well-documented side effect is dyspnea (shortness of breath), which is typically mild and resolves over the first few weeks of therapy.

Critical Safety Warning: Never discontinue Anplag abruptly without direct medical advice, as stopping it prematurely dramatically elevates the risk of a recurrent heart attack or stroke. It must be paused at least 5 days prior to any planned major surgery or dental work to limit excessive bleeding hazards.
